Our cast iron seasoning oil is exactly the same mix of oils that we use in our cast iron conditioner, but without the salt. This seasoning oil is the best way to protect and season your cast iron cookware. It is good not only for the initial seasoning you do on new cast iron, but also for quick weekly re-seasoning of your most used pans.
For the initial seasoning, lightly coat the entire piece of cast iron and bake in the oven at 450-500 for an hour. Let it cool inside the oven.
For weekly re-seasoning or quick touch up after each use, clean pan however you want (water, scrub brush, salt, or even soap). Pat dry, and, using a cloth or paper towel spread a very thin film of seasoning oils on the inside surface. If this is too thick it will remain sticky and not harden. Heat it on the burner until the oils smoke, turn off the heat, and let it cool on the stove top. Each time you do this you are creating a new non-stick layer on your skillet.
This conditioner helps you ensure your cast iron cookware will be a cornerstone of your family's kitchen for generations. The best part is that Lovett Sundries makes it with all-natural oils so that you can feel good about your cooking. It's truly the best way to create a natural, non-stick surface.
The oils change consistency with temperature. They will be liquid in the summer and stiffen up to more solid in the winter. Both work great, but if you prefer solid you can keep it in the fridge. This will also extend the shelf life of the product.
Whether you're new to cooking with cast iron or an experienced chef, know that Lovett Sundries makes seasoning a cinch. We do this all while keeping chemicals out of the equation!
